How is renting a villa different from say, a beach house in the States?
Sunrise Villa is fully staffed with extremely friendly, and highly trained kitchen and household professionals. The Villa is completely equipped with everything necessary for luxury group rental.

Is the Dominican Republic safe? And what about Haiti?
Crime is low, although not non-existent. Generally, the only thing tourists ever encounter is petty theft. Violent crime against tourists is extremely rare, and the police punish all crime very severely. Sunrise Villa is away from the tourist areas, in a gated development with a number of other American-owned villas. To help you feel even safer, our development also has two round-the-clock watchman. Inside the Villa, each bedroom is equipped with a small lockbox to safeguard your valuables. At night, we have our own watchman on site.
As for Haiti, it's about as hundred miles away. It really is a different country. Unlike Haiti, the DR has enjoyed economic success and prosperity. The DR is also a democracy. While some Haitians do live in the DR, the unrest and poverty of Haiti have not spilled across the border. You'll have no reasons for concern.

Do I need to rent a car?
We recommend that you let us pick you up at the airport. It’s expensive to rent a car in the DR, and driving here is, well, a bit different than driving in other countries. We’re happy to arrange a van and driver for you during your stay. It’s about the same price as renting a car, with none of the hassles.

Do I need to speak Spanish?
We (the owners) don’t and we’ve always gotten by just fine. We’ve been visiting here for nearly five years and our knowledge of Spanish doesn’t go beyond, “Una mas cervaza, por favor”. Our General Manager is American and five of our staff members speak English. Most activities, like golf, scuba, or even eating at restaurants, require little Spanish. And since most Dominicans speak a little English, a little plus a little equals enough to understand what’s going on.

How do I get to the Dominican Republic?
The island is served by many airlines and has several international aiports. Airlines include American, Continental, Delta, Jet Blue, and Spirit.
